The state office that licenses insurers and agents and handles consumer complaints. It can look into problems like claim delays or unfair treatment, but it does not act as your lawyer.

This is the least coverage the law requires. It often isn’t enough to pay for a serious accident, and anything above your limits can come out of your own pocket.

These state-established programs cover homes that private insurers won’t. They’re meant as a last resort: coverage is often more limited and can cost more, so shop the private market and ask an agent first. Eligibility rules vary.

Limited homeowners, dwelling, condo and renters policies. Homes eligible for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association get wind and hail coverage there instead.

Wind and hail coverage only, for homes, belongings and manufactured homes. It doesn’t cover flood or storm surge.
